So apparently starting a blog with a newborn in tow isn’t enough of a challenge for me, I’ve to add more learning to the pile. I started the blog to improve my writing skills and hopefully that’ll happen in time. In the meantime, I’ve been learning so much about blogging and how a high standard of photography is really required.
The Challenge: To use just my phone and compact camera (Canon Ixus 115 HS) to take good photographs, do limited editing of them on my iPad and then be able to use them on the blog or print them for decorating our home. I have my large DSLR but don’t really have room in the baby changing bag for it!!! Currently I don’t have the time to have a complicated workflow so I’m using Photoshop express on the iPad and my Samsung S6 phone.
The results are below. I’m very happy with them and will be printing plenty. There are loads more that didn’t make the cut this time, but you never know I might go back over them again another day and fall in love with something new.
Not hard to see there’s a running theme in my photos 🙂 There are times when she does shout ‘NO CAMERA’ and runs away. I love black and white photos and next up for me will be to learn more about choosing suitable images to convert and the best approaches to converting to monochrome.
Our holidays were a perfect time to experiment and also to try out my mums compact, a Canon SR210 (trying to justify buying it myself 😉 ). We were on the beach everyday and I have countless photos of the family.
Ah, my little man, the limited few photos I actually took of him, as he spent most of the holiday hiding in the buggy.
FOOD…. I can never forget food. I don’t want to start taking photos of every dessert and meal I have, but, when I’m served something which looks amazing, I want to be able to capture how tasty it looks.
Follow on challenges. From this will be to learning better editing skills without over editing and, as mentioned, black and white conversions.
So what do you think? Any interest in picking up your own phone or camera and take on the challenge or turning your holiday snaps into photos? Some tips to remember get down low, move in closer and only pick some photos to show not ever single attempt.
